With all subjects you soon realise that the more you research them, the more you realise what you don't know. I have certainly found that to be the case with Internet Marketing (or as we say in the trade, "IM").

The power of the Internet and its increasing use and influence demands that it is worth significant effort to have a meaningful presence thereon in the shape of the corporate website.

Initially it was sufficient that businesses merely had a good looking, 'brochure-style' website with the emphasis being on telling people what the company does. Now with the huge and increasing proliferation of sites unless specific efforts are made your site will just be lost in the masses.

The term Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) covers a whole raft of techniques that can be used to improve the visibility of websites and Brackenhill can support you in undertaking this process if you need assistance.

As the largest search engine, Google is very secretive about the process it goes through to rank web pages. It uses a highly complex algorithm (a sequence of finite instructions, often used for calculation and data processing) to do this and so no one (outside of Google) really knows how this works.

However, through trial and error, many of the techniques that improve rankings have been uncovered, although the degree to which each one has weight is still unknown. The application of these techniques as a concerted strategy will produce favourable results, over time, and to this end SEO is a science and not a black art!
