Given that we're all only six people removed from knowing anyone in the world it's hardly surprising that, as you reduce the geographical area, the liklihood of knowing someone increases exponentially. We have our graphic design agency based in York and for the people who live there it's acknowledged as a big village rather than a city, such is the weave of the relationships there. Of course this can be a double-edged sword depending upon what sort of life you lead or would like to lead! Even within a county the size of Yorkshire it still amazes me how the network is evident.
My father used to say to me as a younger man that the world get's smaller as you get older and this is certalnly a truism.
As an example we've just started work for a new client undertaking a range of publications both for creative graphic design and print production. The marketing manager there was referred to me by a friend of hers at another organisation that I had been keeping in touch with but have not actually done any work for to date. Anyway, it turns out that my new client knows one of my best pals very well and so the new circle is complete - perhaps not the same as becoming in contact with President Obama or Nelson Mandela you may say but you get the drift!
